SIX of Britain’s most promising young designers have been shortlisted to compete in the finals of the Alfa Romeo Young Designer Award at this year’s 21st annual St Andrews Charity Fashion Show.
The finalists will present their Alfa-inspired creations to a panel of style-conscious judges including Amelia Simmons (Lady M Presents), Emma Hayley Dixon (No1 Magazine), Maria Barnett (Scottish Woman) and David Sheldon-Smillie (Average Joes).
The winner will not only be crowned the 2013 Alfa Romeo Young Designer, they will also receive £1,000 in prize money and a hugely sought-after placement with internationally acclaimed fashion label PPQ.
Finalists also have the opportunity to embrace leading Scottish talent with Kay McIntyre, three-time Scottish Hairdresser of the Year, helping to style the models, before the finalists’ creations are showcased on the catwalk of the UK’s largest student-run fashion show.
Fashion fans can play an important role in deciding who should win the prestigious award – with visitors to https://www.facebook.com/AlfaRomeoUK able to choose their favourite finalist designs and have their vote count in the final deliberation.
Last year’s award saw fashion design undergraduate Janine Clark crowned overall winner. Janine not only went on to design a unique pocket square for Alfa Romeo’s charity fashion campaign with Heart Research UK, but also secured a full-time position with Abercrombie & Fitch USA.
This year’s finalists, Katya Encheva, Alex Heath, Courtney Blades, Luke Archer, George Jenkins and Matthew O’Brien, will all be looking to emulate her success.
Damien Dally, Head of Brand for Alfa Romeo UK, said: “Now in its third year, the Alfa Romeo Young Designer Award continues to go from strength to strength, a fact that’s clearly visible from the quality of entrants this year, which has been extraordinary.
“Style, passion and creativity are some of Alfa Romeo’s core values, so we’re really happy to continue our support of the Young Designer Award and its commitment to unearthing fashion’s next rising star.”
The winning designs will be chosen during a judging session at St Andrews on February 16 followed by their debut on the catwalk at the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show 2013.
